| LINWOOD EXPANSION PLANS FOR 2008-2009 | | FEBRUARY 20TH UPDATE:
Congratulations to Linwood Principal Steven Unowsky, who was approved by the school board to become the principal for the joint Linwood-Monroe program beginning 2008-2009.
Linwood to Expand to Pre-K through 8th grade in 2008-2009 School Year
On December
18th, the St. Paul Public Schools school board voted unanimously to
expand Linwood to the 8th grade beginning in the 2008-2009 school year.
They left flexibility to determine grade level split between K-3 or K-4
at the current Linwood site, depending on enrollment. The remaining
grades and Pre-K will be housed in the current Monroe K-8 building.
The
district leadership has continually expressed their commitment to
making this a win-win opportunity for all. The best way to be most
effective is to be a united community, working for the best interests
of the children. Beginning in January, we will be building transition
teams within the staff, community, and together with Monroe staff. The
business of unifying people and plans for this expansion will be our
main initiative. Together, we can put plans in place to make this
expansion a rousing success for all. We will continue our high levels
of family involvement throughout this process.
In addition to
the Site Council and PTA, any and all parents/staff/community members wishing to be involved in
transition teams are invited to join in the planning for this
expansion. With your help, we can accomplish anything! If you wish to
join in the planning process, check the calendar in this section for upcoming meeting dates, and come join us!
In working together on the expansion, the Linwood-Monroe Joint Site Council determined at
their 1/24/08 meeting that they would be guided by the following Core
Operational Values:
1. One unified and supportive community.
2. Clear, honest, open communication.
3. Arts infused program that is challenging for all students. A rigorous, engaging, creative, and fun curriculum
4. Welcoming environment for all. Celebrating diversity in all its forms
5. Experiences that foster trust. Clear expectations / follow through / building relationships
6. Resources utilized equitably for the academic growth for all students.
*Please see the bottom of this page for related Expansion Documents, including the Information Sheet for Sharing with Children, a sheet of information that all teachers in both schools are sharing with all students.
